Highlights of the ASBA National Conference, Sydney, September 2017
Over 700 delegates - and more than 70 from WA - assembled in Sydney in September to participate in the ASBA National Conference, with the very appropriate theme of "Charting the Course"
Highlights included:
- The ASBA WA Pre-Conference Get-Together at The Pumphouse at Darling Harbour. A fun night was had by all WA membrs and WA sponsors who attended (over 80 guests!)
- The keynote on the Opening Day by Matt Church, on the Leading in the Age of Disruption - an excellent insight into the changes and challenges ahead
- Harbour ride out to Cockatoo Island - with its range of spectacular industrial/street art performers set in the superbly old, atmospheric Cockatoo Island shipbuilding yards
- Innovation & Change keynote by Simon Breakspear on the second morning - engaging!
- Simon Hammond and his take on leading culture in schools... set to music!
- The courage, determination and wit of crime journalist, Kate McClymont
- The closing session "School under Pressure" Hypothetical led by Dr Norman Swan... a lesson in humility and hubris...and watching people squirm
- The Gatsby Gybe gala event... ASBA folk love a dress-up occasion!
Extra Special Highlight:
- The ASBA WA State Breakfast on the second morning, where we gathered to chat and laugh, and honour the two WA recipients of the Chairman's Chapter Awards for Outstanding Service: Des Hardiman, and Michael Burgess. Congratulations!!
