Final Reminder: Important Changes to the Term 1 Meeting & HR PD Event

Dear Members,

The Annual General Meeting of ASBA (WA) and Term 1 PD session will be held:

DATE:    Thursday, 21 March 2019
TIME:     7.30am to 10am
VENUE: South of Perth Yacht Club
               Coffee Point Road
               Applecross WA 6153
CATERING:  Breakfast Provided

Due to travel requirements of the presenter, David Scanlon, Special Counsel from Bartlett Workplaces, the morning will commence with the HR PD session at 7:30am followed up by our chapter's AGM and Term Meeting at 9am.

As such, there will be now be no charge for attendance at meeting contrary to the previous notice that has been circulated to members.  Members who have paid will be refunded in due course.

For those members that are yet to register please RSVP directly to  ASBA members are encouraged to share this event with their HR Colleagues.

Casual employees- the changing industrial relations landscape

Schools employ casual employees in all manner of roles. The principles of what casual employment is was examined in the Full Court of the Federal Court of Australia decision of WorkPac Pty Ltd v Skene (Skene)
The renewed focus on casual employment serves to remind employers about the need to actively manage casual employment arrangements.


David Scanlon - Bartlett Workplace

David is Special Counsel and heads up Bartlett Workplace's Perth office. 

David specialises in employment and industrial relations law.  He provides strategic advice to clients on the legal and industrial implications of matters including enterprise bargaining, collective and individual employee disputation, right of entry, employment contracts, occupational health and safety, restructuring and redundancies, employer policies, discrimination and harassment complaints, workplace investigations and privacy.  David acts and instructs in employment, industrial, safety and discrimination matters in federal and state courts and tribunals.  

David is passionate about workplace training and regularly develops and presents client-tailored sessions, including for human resources professionals and senior and middle managers on topics including bullying, discrimination, sexual harassment and workplace investigations.  He acts for employers across industries, with specific experience in the resources, construction maritime and emergency services sectors.

David joined Bartlett Workplace after working as the Employee Relations Manager for St John Ambulance Western Australia.  This in-house experience gives him unique insight into helping clients solve complex industrial and human resources issues.
